Which Age Group Is Feeling the Most Stress?

Stress is a reaction we all have to things in our environment which are unsettling, irritating or generally unpleasant. Causes of stress can include our relationships, our job, and our financial situation. Lately there have been more people experiencing some kind of financial stress as many of us are concerned about our savings, our employment situation, and our future retirement plans.

Certain lifestyle factors can make us feel more stressed out. How often we exercise, how much we sleep, whether we use any drugs, and what kind of diet we have can all contribute to how we handle our stress as well as how often we feel stressed.

People who are too stressed out tend to feel exhausted, irritable, and jumpy. They may experience physical symptoms like headaches, stomach-aches and other minor ailments. Over time, heightened stress can lead to cardiovascular problems or obesity and may contribute to the development of other serious illnesses such as cancer.

According to a report developed by a questionnaire on stress, money concerns are especially relevant to people ages 18 to 34 today. This may be one of the reasons why people in this age group were shown to be the most stressed out. An article from ABC News lists some of the factors which the survey participants identified as significant sources of stress in their lives. These factors include work, student debt, and unemployment.

The article states that these stressors have caused people in the 18-to-34-year-old age bracket to delay moving to the next stage in their lives as far as settling down to get married and have children.
